February Flurries: Science Has Great News for People Who Read Actual Books!

Hi everyone!

Today I’m going to be doing something a little bit different! I’m going to be reviewing a news article! This was originally a school article summary and reccomendation, but I felt like this article was a very interesting thing to post here as well!

Original Article: http://mic.com/articles/99408/science-has-great-news-for-people-who-read-actual-books

Summary (written in own words):

The news article “Science Has Great News for People Who Read Actual Books” written by Rachel Grate is an article that has astounding news for people who read on different formats. According to science, people who read physical books (printed on pages) have better reading comprehension. “Reading long, literary sentences sans links and distractions is actually a serious skill that you lose if you don’t use it. Before the Internet, the brain read in a linear fashion, taking advantage of sensory details to remember where key information was in the book by layout. ” says Scientists. A study was taken a few years ago, that asked adults to read a crime/mystery book on a kindle, vs. people who were asked to read a print copy. The researchers found that the people who  read on the kindle had a tendency to forget the order of the book, rather then the people who read it in print. The people who read it in print remembered all of the events that had taken place. What a miraculous discovery!

Review:

This article was SUPER interesting! As a book lover, who reads both e-book and physical book format, I found this article interesting. I never associate books with science until today. As well, I never really read articles about books, so this was a change for me! I recommend this article  to ANYONE, parents or children. This article made me realize that e-readers aren’t amazing for you, although through out some of it I disagreed. I am not a HUGE e-book reader, besides reviewing e-books for publishers or authors. Personally, I think that if I were to read the e-book in e-book version and in print, I would remember the same thing. Other then that, I enjoyed the article very much!

I hope that you guys enjoyed this little article review! See you tomorrow!

Good Night Book Lions!

  1. Great article. I love to read books as opposed to e-books. Still like the old fashion feeling of cuddling up with a good book!
